But before I go on about FMDCarmel, let me provide the backdrop. Since I was cleared to workout after having my oldest (now seven), I started my fitness journey. At first it was to lose weight for my sister's wedding, then it became so much more. I really enjoyed working out. Fast forward a few years and I had my spirited little girl. This was another milestone in my journey. Not only did I have my child, but I took my journey to the next level by cleaning up my nutrition. I did everything I reasonably could (my doctor even said so). But it was in December 2013, when I had my diastasis recti repaired. It was a life altering event. As I was recovering, I received the go ahead to walk on the treadmill. Then I could jog, and then I ran. So while I couldn't strength train, I could get on that treadmill and see what I could do.
So you're probably asking yourself, what the heck does this have to do with #FMDCarmel, Em? Since you asked (or maybe to prevent furthering rambling), I was having coffee with a new BFF (in this case, best fitness friend) and I mentioned that as I looked back over 2014, it really was a transformative year for me. My body did things I didn't think I could do. Let me count the ways....
1. I ran a 5k. Did I mention that I hadn't run before February of 2014?
2. I ran 10k, a 10 miler, & as of November, a half marathon. A freaking half marathon!!
3. I actually placed in two races this year (I came in 8th at the Washington, DC Shape Diva Dash and 2nd for my age/gender group at the Reindeer Run 10k benefitting the Salisbury YMCA).
4. I ran 528 miles in 2014!
5. I wore a freaking bikini! A bikini. My body isn't perfect but I felt comfortable in a two piece. That's an amazing thing!! And that's what I kept thinking during the year. Isn't it amazing what a body can do?
So back to talking to one of my new BFFs. It was because of this transformation that I signed up as a #FMDAmbassador and then when I saw they were having a retreat...with a photo shoot [insert girly squeal], I knew I had to go (even though I flew cross country to meet with people I didn't know). The FMD retreat was more more than I expected. It was very empowering and I truly got the sense that Kim & Shannon want to empower women, which is evidenced through their support of Tara and Joyce, the founders of their respective companies, Moonlit Mermaid and Basic Greens. We all received swag bags which were totally awesome get contained samples of their respective products. I'll provide a blogpost on my thoughts on their products later.
