The theme for this week should be peanut butter and jelly.
Woo-whee. This week was tough. I didn't workout Tuesday night because I was just too tired. I got home a little later than usual and (I thought) I was itching to go the gym. What I was actually itching to do is to have some downtime and rest. I actually got in my car and about five minutes from the house felt super duper tired. And not the, 'I'll feel more alive' when I get to the gym' kind of tired. The 'I need some sleep and take it easy'. So, I turned back around and wrote last week's blogpost :). Unfortunately, that did not improve during the week. My Wednesday morning run was awful. I felt like I was running through peanut butter, as shown below. Though I was looking forward to my long run on Saturday, it was not very rewarding. I was up at 4:15am (way before I needed to be), I ran out of enery gels so I took a packet of chocolate hazelnut butter, and my legs were already feeling tight. I was struggling. I was scheduled to do 12 and ended up with 11.12 miles...in the same amount of time I actually ran a half marathon in March. Ugh. But the worst part, is that though I was on my favorite trail, I did not the enjoy the run. I wanted to stop at mile 5. I wanted to cry at mile 8. I just wanted to be done and I do not enjoy that feeling, at all.
It was just a tough week that led to a tough weekend. It started with the long run on Saturday morning, followed by a little family BBQ on Saturday afternoon (and I used that as my cheat meal), followed by The Color Run at Night Saturday night, followed by a #finsup fun workout Sunday morning for International Mermaid Day. By the time Sunday night rolled around, my body was revolting and did not want to move. Luckily, it didn't have to. Except for the long run, each of these events were so much fun (just exhausting).
The Color Run at Night was sweet, that's for sure. I love having this bonding time with my bud, who I recognize is growing up and yet still a kid (sad momma tears about to spring up). So the fact that we can do this together and have fun and I get him Kona Ice at the end is worth the cost of tickets, parking, and shaved ice. Here are some pictures from the event. I can't wait to see the ones that the on-site photographers took!
I helped organize the Maryland meetup for our International Mermaid Day #finsup fun run. Sarah from Superstar Fitness designed the course and wowza, it was fun and challenging! I'm not a group run/fitness person, but I loved our little group and I can't wait to do it again next year! Check out the pictures (which were taken by Fernando Shelton).
And then there was this sweet afternoon ride. I haven't been on a boat in a loooonnnng time and it was the kids first time on a pleasure boat. It was awesome. And a bonus... I backed a suburban with the trailer into the water and parked said vehicle and trailed (kind of okay). Not too shabby for not having done that in 20 years. Anyone who knows me, knows I love great scenery and the water. Given how I was feeling, this boat ride was exactly what I needed.
But to rewind a minute...I felt really good at the gym. I sent a video of me deadlifting in for a form check (and I'm glad I did...I need to adjust my form). Overall, I felt so much stronger this week and becoming more comfortable with the barbell. Check out this week at the gym in pictures.
Peanut Butter and Jelly
My nutrition was a mixed. I'm like a pendulum (too high on carbs one day, too high on fat the next). It's gonna take a little time to get this right. But, I keep trying.
I'm also trying to make it work for me. Like when I tried to make this kind of clean ambrosia. The only problem is that it's too high in calories (and carbs).
Another week is under my belt, so let's see if I figure it out in week 5!
I firmly believe that fitness and well being is a journey. I love strength training and running. I tend to eat clean, and I'm currently practicing flexible dieting (IIFYM)!
